Education requirements:

  • The minimum education needed for this profession is a bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering

  • Also will need to earn the professional engineer (PE) license.

  • If I wish to further excel in my career certain positions require that you have your Masters completed.

Civil Engineers conceive, design, build, supervise, operate, construct, and maintain infrastructure projects and systems in the public and private sector, including roads, buildings, airports, tunnels, dams, bridges, and systems for water supply and sewage treatment.

Job Outlook:

  • The median annual pay for a Civil Engineer is $84,770.00 a year or $40.75 and hour.

  • The job outlook is projected to grow 11% in the coming years.

My long-term career goal: 

I will be a civil engineer (structural or construction) by 2023. From there I plan to maintain a job here in Charlotte for 5-10 years to build experience. From there I plan to take my career to the government side finding a job as a government contractor.
